Collection: Drappier

Based in Urville, in the Côte des Bar, Maison Drappier has been a family-owned Champagne house since 1808. Eight generations later, it remains independent and family-run, with Michel Drappier and his children. Renowned for its low-dosage Pinot Noir champagnes, its Brut Nature cuvées and its large formats, Drappier offers a range that is both approachable and expert. At Le Caveau des Pépites you will find a wide selection of Drappier champagnes, from the standard bottle to the Salmanazar, as well as old vintages from the Oenothèque.

The history of Maison Drappier

The Drappier family has been growing vines in Urville since 1808. Its vaulted cellars, dug in the 12th century by the Cistercian monks of the nearby Clairvaux Abbey, are still used to age the wines. Over the generations, the house has become known for its commitment to Pinot Noir, which dominates its vineyard, and for a very natural approach: low dosages, little or no added sulphur and vines farmed with respect for the soil.

Drappier is one of the pioneers of Brut Nature, a champagne with no sugar added at disgorgement, and of champagne with no added sulphur. The house also preserves forgotten Champagne grape varieties such as Arbane, Petit Meslier, Blanc Vrai and Fromenteau, which you will find in the Quattuor, Trop m'en Faut ! and Père Pinot cuvées.

General de Gaulle, who lived in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises, a few kilometres from Urville, was a loyal customer of the house. The Charles de Gaulle cuvée pays tribute to him.

The Drappier cuvées

  • Carte d'Or: the house's signature cuvée, led by Pinot Noir, round and fruity. It is available from demi-sec to Salmanazar.
  • Brut Nature: 100% Pinot Noir with zero dosage, also available with no added sulphur, as a rosé and as a Les Riceys rosé.
  • Rosé de Saignée: a vinous, generous Pinot Noir rosé made by maceration.
  • Blanc de Blancs, Clarevallis and Quattuor: cuvées with character, including the organically farmed Clarevallis and Quattuor, a blend of four white grape varieties.
  • Millésime Exception, Grande Sendrée and Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru: the house's vintage champagnes, to cellar or to give.
  • L'Oenothèque: old vintages kept in the cellar and disgorged late, to discover champagnes at full maturity.
  • The Immersion gift boxes: a bottle aged under the sea and its twin aged in the cellar, to compare the two ageing methods.

Drappier large formats

Drappier is one of the few houses to make its Carte d'Or in almost every format, from the magnum up to the largest bottles. Large formats age more slowly and give finer, more complex champagnes. Discover our magnums and large formats, perfect for big tables and celebrations.

Choosing your Drappier champagne

For an aperitif, the Carte d'Or or the Brut Nature are safe bets. For a meal, choose a Rosé de Saignée or a Millésime Exception. For a memorable gift, the Grande Sendrée, an old vintage from the Oenothèque or an Immersion gift box will make a strong impression.
