Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Magnum 2024, Château de Meursault is the great white of the range, born on the hill of Corton. A massive wine in its youth, often closed during its first years, which asks for cellar time before it truly gives itself up.

Corton-Charlemagne forms a belt around the upper part of the hill of Corton, across the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. The best exposures run from south-west to south-east, on white marl rich in limestone that gives Chardonnay an uncommon structure and acidity. It is the most powerful white Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune, often reserved for five years, then capable of developing over more than twenty years on candied citrus, hazelnut and an almost saline minerality.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The fief of Moulin Foulot, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred parcels, farmed under certified organic agriculture, producing five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

  • Palate: Powerful and vertical, imposing acidity, very long saline finish

Serving and cellaring

Serve this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru at 12 to 14 °C. Its cellaring potential is eight to twenty years. The magnum ages more slowly than the bottle, so count on a few extra years. Keep the bottle lying down, at a stable temperature, away from light and vibration.

Food pairings

Lobster à l'américaine, turbot roasted in butter, poularde demi-deuil, white truffle. A three-year-old Comté holds the conversation.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Corton-Charlemagne known for its ageing?

Because of its limestone marl and its altitude, which give high acidity and dense material. The wine needs several years for its structure to knit together, and can then hold two decades without weakening.

At what temperature should it be served?

Between 12 and 14 °C, a little warmer than an everyday white. Served too cold, it stays closed and shows only its acidity. A large white wine glass helps it express itself markedly.

Why choose a magnum?

The magnum holds 150 cl, that is two bottles. The ratio between the volume of wine and the surface in contact with air is more favourable, which slows the evolution and gives wines that are often fresher at the same age. It is also the format for large tables.

How is the bottle shipped?

Delivery is free within France on orders from 300 €. Every bottle is packed with care and sent by tracked shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose between wine, champagne, spirits, liqueur or chartreuse?

It all depends on the occasion (and what you feel like!).

  • Wine: to go with a good meal.
  • Champagne: for aperitifs and celebrations.
  • Spirits: to sip slowly, for lovers of character.

Are your products exclusively of French origin?

No, our cellar is open to the world! Although we favour French gems, we also select treasures from elsewhere.

What is the difference between a liqueur and a chartreuse?

Chartreuse is a herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe. It is a liqueur , but not all liqueurs are Chartreuse.
