Rully 1er Cru Cloux 2023, Domaine A. et P. de Villaine is a red Rully Premier Cru from the climat Les Cloux, neighbour of Champs Cloux, on the best slopes of the appellation.
Les Cloux gives Pinot Noir of great elegance, on limestone soils that bring freshness and a saline finish. As across the whole range, the domaine favours infusion over extraction and ageing in old barrels, for a wine of texture rather than of power.
The domaine was founded in 1971 at Bouzeron by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine. Aubert de Villaine co-managed the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1974 to 2022, and applied here, in the Côte Chalonnaise, the same demanding standards as at Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard, of around twenty hectares, has been farmed under certified organic agriculture since the late 1990s, one of the first conversions in Burgundy. Pierre de Benoist, Aubert's nephew, is in charge of technical management.
