Rully 1er Cru Champs Cloux 2023, Domaine A. et P. de Villaine is a red Rully Premier Cru from the climat Champs Cloux, one of the best exposed red crus of the appellation.
Rully also produces excellent reds, still widely underrated. Champs Cloux occupies a well exposed limestone slope that gives Pinot Noir finesse and a tight weave. Plot by plot vinification, very measured extraction, ageing in old barrels: the domaine's signature applied to red.
The domaine was founded in 1971 at Bouzeron by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine. Aubert de Villaine co-managed the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1974 to 2022, and applied here, in the Côte Chalonnaise, the same demanding standards as at Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard, of around twenty hectares, has been farmed under certified organic agriculture since the late 1990s, one of the first conversions in Burgundy. Pierre de Benoist, Aubert's nephew, is in charge of technical management.

Frequently asked questions
Is red Rully worth it?
Yes, and it is one of the last good deals in red Burgundy. The premiers crus of Rully offer the finesse of Burgundian Pinot Noir at a price that is still reasonable.
What is a Premier Cru in Burgundy?
It is a delimited climat, situated on the best parcels of a commune, whose name appears on the label next to that of the village. It sits between the village appellation and the Grand Cru.
Who is Domaine A. et P. de Villaine?
It is the domaine founded in 1971 at Bouzeron, in the Côte Chalonnaise, by Aubert de Villaine, for many years co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and his wife Pamela. It has become the benchmark of the Bouzeron appellation and one of the most respected estates of the Côte Chalonnaise.
How is the bottle shipped?
