Drappier Grande Sendrée 2015 is the prestige cuvée of Maison Drappier, a vintage champagne from the La Grande Sendrée lieu-dit in Urville.

La Grande Sendrée owes its name to a plot in Urville covered in ashes after the fire that devastated the village in 1836. A copying error in the land register gave it the S that sets it apart today. The cuvée is presented in a bottle reproducing an 18th-century bottle found in the house's cellars, and it is riddled entirely by hand. The hot, sunny 2015 vintage saw a marked drought followed by saving rains in August: it gave rich, expressive and balanced wines with fine ageing potential. The wines, aged entirely in large oak casks, were then aged for a long time on laths.

Frequently asked questions

Why is Grande Sendrée spelled with an S?

The plot was covered in ashes (cendres) after the Urville fire of 1836, hence its name. When the land register was copied, an error turned the C into an S, and the house kept this spelling.

Who is Maison Drappier?

Founded in 1808 in Urville, in the Côte des Bar, Maison Drappier is a family house now run by Michel Drappier and his children. A recognised Pinot Noir specialist, it grows its vines on the Kimmeridgian limestone of the Aube and ages its wines in 12th-century Cistercian cellars.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose between wine, champagne, spirits, liqueur or chartreuse?

It all depends on the occasion (and what you feel like!).

  • Wine: to go with a good meal.
  • Champagne: for aperitifs and celebrations.
  • Spirits: to sip slowly, for lovers of character.
  • Liqueurs and Chartreuse: as a digestif, neat or on ice.

Are your products exclusively of French origin?

No, our cellar is open to the world! Although we favour French gems, we also select treasures from elsewhere.

What is the difference between a liqueur and a chartreuse?

Chartreuse is a herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe. It is a liqueur , but not all liqueurs are Chartreuse.

Which products do you select?

We select great houses and renowned estates: iconic cuvées, vintages and limited editions.

At what temperature should you serve your alcoholic beverages?

Red wines: 15 to 17 °C

Champagnes: 8 to 10 °C, and 10 to 12 °C for great vintages

Spirits: room temperature

Liqueurs and Chartreuse: chilled or on ice
