Drappier Brut Nature Trop m'en Faut ! Fromenteau is a 100% Fromenteau Brut Nature, Fromenteau being the Champagne name for Pinot Gris, a grape once widespread in the Aube and now very rare.

The name of the cuvée is a spoonerism of Fromenteau, a play on words popularised by Rabelais, which roughly means: so good you can never have enough. It comes from the Les Truchots plot in Urville, facing due south on Upper Kimmeridgian limestone, ploughed by horse and farmed organically. The blend combines the 2019 and 2020 harvests in equal parts, aged eight months in demi-muids made from local oak from the Forêt d'Orient, then three years on laths, with zero dosage.

Key facts

  • Origin: France, Champagne, Côte des Bar, Urville
  • Producer: Champagne Drappier
  • Grapes: 100% Fromenteau (Pinot Gris)
  • Dosage: Brut Nature, 0 g/L
  • Ageing: 8 months in demi-muids, 3 years on laths
  • Viticulture: certified organic
  • Size: 75 cl

Tasting notes

  • Colour: Pale gold, straw yellow
  • Nose: Floral, softened by mirabelle plum and apricot
  • Palate: Rich, silky and broad, chalky minerality and an almost exotic roundness, notes of forgotten fruits

Serving and storage

Serve it at around 7 to 8 °C, in a white wine glass. It keeps for several years and gains in complexity. Store the bottle lying down, in a cool place away from light.

Food pairing

Spaghetti with bottarga, a summer vegetable tian, poultry simmered with gentle spices, fish roasted in butter or a Comté aged a few months.

Frequently asked questions

What is Fromenteau?

It is the old name for Pinot Gris in Champagne. This copper-skinned grape was once common in the Aube and gave so-called grey wines. It is still permitted in the appellation but now covers only a few hectares.

Why is Drappier a house apart?

Based in Urville since 1808, the Drappier family champions a terroir champagne, low in dosage and sulphur, made mainly from Côte des Bar Pinot Noir. It also preserves forgotten Champagne grape varieties and presents itself as the first carbon-neutral Champagne house.

How is the bottle shipped?

Delivery is free in France for orders from €300. Every bottle is carefully packed and sent with tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose between wine, champagne, spirits, liqueur or chartreuse?

It all depends on the occasion (and what you feel like!).

  • Wine: to go with a good meal.
  • Champagne: for aperitifs and celebrations.

Are your products exclusively of French origin?

No, our cellar is open to the world! Although we favour French gems, we also select treasures from elsewhere.

What is the difference between a liqueur and a chartreuse?

Chartreuse is a herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe. It is a liqueur , but not all liqueurs are Chartreuse.
