Deutz Brut Classic Mathusalem is the signature cuvée of Maison Deutz in a 6-litre methuselah, delivered in a wooden case: a rare format for grand celebrations.

Brut Classic is the first cuvée the house makes each year. It blends Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier in similar proportions, from the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne. Reserve wines from selected vintages, including Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, ensure a consistent style. The wine ages for around three years in the cellar before disgorgement. The methuselah holds 6 litres, or eight bottles. The share of air under the cork is minimal relative to the volume of wine: the champagne evolves very slowly and keeps its freshness. An exceptional bottle for grand receptions.

Key facts

  • Origin: France, Champagne, Montagne de Reims, Côte des Blancs and Vallée de la Marne
  • Producer: Champagne Deutz
  • Grapes: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier in similar proportions
  • Dosage: Brut, around 9 g/L according to the technical sheet
  • Ageing: around 3 years in the cellar, reserve wines from selected vintages
  • Size: 600 cl (methuselah, 6 L), in a wooden case

Tasting notes

  • Colour: Deep gold, fine bubbles
  • Nose: Hawthorn and white flowers, then toast, almond paste and ripe fruit
  • Palate: Freshness from the Chardonnay and richness from the Pinot, silky texture, fruity, persistent and harmonious finish

Serving and storage

Such a volume calls for planning: leave it overnight in a very cool room, then several hours in a large tub of iced water to reach 8 °C. Serve it with two people, holding the bottle by the base. Store it lying down in its wooden case, in a cool place away from light.

Food pairing

The house suggests a sea bream tartare with citrus, tender poultry or a truffled brie. In large format, it also shines on a reception buffet.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose between wine, champagne, spirits, liqueur or chartreuse?

It all depends on the occasion (and what you feel like!).

  • Wine: to go with a good meal.
  • Champagne: for aperitifs and celebrations.
  • Spirits: to sip slowly, for lovers of character.
  • Liqueurs and Chartreuse: as a digestif, neat or on ice.

Are your products exclusively of French origin?

No, our cellar is open to the world! Although we favour French gems, we also select treasures from elsewhere.

What is the difference between a liqueur and a chartreuse?

Chartreuse is a herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe. It is a liqueur , but not all liqueurs are Chartreuse.

Which products do you select?

We select great houses and renowned estates: iconic cuvées, vintages and limited editions.

At what temperature should you serve your alcoholic beverages?

Red wines: 15 to 17 °C

Champagnes: 8 to 10 °C, and 10 to 12 °C for great vintages

Spirits: room temperature

Liqueurs and Chartreuse: chilled or on ice
