Corton-Vergennes Grand Cru Rouge 2023, Château de Meursault is a rare climat of the Corton Grand Cru, high on the slope in Ladoix-Serrigny, just below the Corton-Charlemagne. In red, it gives a wine that is finer and more floral than the Corton from the foot of the slope.
Les Vergennes occupies the upper part of the hill, in contact with the Corton-Charlemagne, on thin limestone soils mixed with scree. The altitude and the fineness of the soil temper ripeness: here the Pinot Noir gains in perfume what it loses in mass. The result is a more slender, more floral Corton, with a tannic frame that is tight but never thick. It is also one of the smallest climats of the appellation, which explains why it is rarely found in red.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, goes back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over around a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which give five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
Corton-Vergennes, is it a white or a red?
Both colours exist under this name, which remains rare on the hill. This one is a red, from Pinot Noir, from the upper slope of Ladoix-Serrigny, at the edge of the Corton-Charlemagne.
Why is it so rarely seen?
Because the climat is small and shared between few owners. Production in red remains modest, which makes it one of the least known Corton among the general public despite its level of terroir.
