Corton-Vergennes Grand Cru Blanc 2024, Château de Meursault is a rare white wine, from the named vineyard plot of Les Vergennes on the hill of Corton, in the Corton appellation and not Corton-Charlemagne. Very few estates offer it as a separate cuvée.
Les Vergennes lies on the eastern flank of the hill of Corton, at Ladoix-Serrigny, just below the belt of Corton-Charlemagne. The plot is classified as Grand Cru Corton and can produce white as well as red, but Chardonnay is very much in the minority there, which explains how rare these bottles are. The more easterly exposure and the stony soils mixed with marl give a white that is less massive than Corton-Charlemagne, more floral and quicker to open, while keeping the mineral backbone of the hill.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The fief of Moulin Foulot, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred parcels, farmed under certified organic agriculture, producing five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
Corton or Corton-Charlemagne, what is the difference?
Corton-Charlemagne is reserved for Chardonnay on the upper belt of the hill. The Corton appellation, below it, covers mostly Pinot Noir but allows white in certain plots, including Les Vergennes. White wines from Corton are therefore far rarer.
Can it be drunk earlier than a Corton-Charlemagne?
Yes, as a rule. Its structure is less imposing and it begins to open from four or five years. Even so, it holds a good fifteen years in proper cellar conditions.
How is the bottle shipped?
Delivery is free within France on orders from 300 €. Every bottle is packed with care and sent by tracked shipping.
