Cairanne Peyre Blanche Red, Famille Perrin is the house's cru in AOC Cairanne, a red of Grenache and Syrah aged without wood, built for fruit and freshness.
The name Peyre Blanche refers to the white limestone of the area. The vines are planted on fine clay and gravel terraces and on sandy molasse, at an altitude that lets the Grenache ripen slowly. Part of the vineyard was planted in the 1950s. Cairanne, long a Côtes du Rhône Villages, has moved up to its own village appellation, and it is one of the most reliable terroirs in the southern Rhône for Grenache.
Famille Perrin is based at Château de Beaucastel, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the family has worked for several generations. A pioneer of organic and then biodynamic growing, it belongs to Primum Familiae Vini, the circle of the world's leading wine families. Over the years it has extended its work to the other appellations of the southern Rhône, each cuvée coming from identified plots that are vinified separately.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Cairanne appellation?
Cairanne is a village in the Vaucluse, north-east of Orange. Long classified as Côtes du Rhône Villages, it has obtained its own village appellation. Its pebble terraces and sandy molasse give ripe Grenache that is rarely heavy.
Why is this wine not aged in barrel?
The house chose to age it in stainless steel or concrete tanks, with no time in wood. The aim is to keep the pepper, the blackcurrant and the minty touch intact, where wood would have added roasted notes.
