Beaune Premier Cru Teurons 2023, Château de Meursault occupies the heart of the hillside, halfway up the slope above Beaune. It is the most structured of the village's Premiers Crus, built on stone, with a firmness of tannin that calls for a few years.
Les Teurons lies mid-slope, west of Beaune, in a sector where the topsoil is thin and limestone very present. This poor soil limits the vigour of the vine and gives smaller berries with thick skins. The resulting wine stands apart from the neighbouring named vineyard plots through its frame: firm tannins, mineral depth, sustained acidity. This is a Beaune for cellaring, sterner than Grèves or Cent Vignes in its early years, but longer on the palate.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates of the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it stems, goes back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
Do Les Teurons keep for a long time?
It is one of the Beaune Premiers Crus best suited to cellaring. The tannins and sustained acidity need four to five years to melt, then the wine evolves over a good ten years towards notes of undergrowth and leather.
Why does this Beaune seem more austere?
Because of the soil. Mid-slope, the earth is thin and the limestone comes to the surface, which concentrates the berries and reinforces the frame. The wine is closed in its youth, but that rigour becomes an asset with time.
