Beaune Premier Cru Les Cent Vignes Magnum 2021, Château de Meursault grows on the northern sector of the Beaune hillside, next to Les Bressandes. It is the most charming Premier Cru of the hillside: crunchy fruit, supple palate, immediate pleasure without ten years of waiting.
Les Cent Vignes sits at the foot of the hillside north of Beaune, on soils lighter and less stony than the named vineyard plots above it. The name comes from the historical fragmentation of this sector, divided into a multitude of small vines. The earth is gentle, ripeness comes easily, and Pinot Noir finds here a setting that favours the expression of fruit. The result is a perfumed wine, broad and approachable on the palate, whose fine tannins call for no long wait.
What critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the most recent vintages of the cuvée, all vintages taken together. The 2023 vintage was rated 95/100 by TWOFW, 94/100 in Bourgogne Aujourd'hui and 92/100 by Jasper Morris.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates of the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it stems, goes back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Serving and cellaring
Serve this Beaune Premier Cru Les Cent Vignes at 14 to 16 °C. Its cellaring potential is four to ten years. The magnum ages more slowly than the bottle, so allow a few extra years. Store the bottle lying down, at a stable temperature, away from light and vibration.
Food and wine pairings
Pan-fried veal chop, herb roast chicken, homemade lasagne, tomme de Savoie. It also lends itself to being served lightly chilled in summer.

Frequently asked questions
Why the name Cent Vignes?
It comes from the old division of the sector, shared between a very large number of small plots. That fragmentation is still visible today, the named vineyard plot counting many owners over a modest area.
Which Beaune Premier Cru should you start with?
Les Cent Vignes makes a good entry point. The fruit is immediate, the tannins supple and the wine shows well in its youth, whereas Les Teurons or Les Trois Journaux ask for several years in the cellar.
Why choose a magnum?
The magnum holds 150 cl, that is two bottles. The ratio between the volume of wine and the surface exchanging with air is more favourable, which slows evolution and often gives fresher wines at the same age. It is also the format for big tables.
How is the bottle shipped?
Delivery is free in France on orders from 300 €. Every bottle is packed with care and shipped with tracking.
