Beaune Premier Cru Blanches Fleurs 2023, Château de Meursault is a white Beaune Premier Cru from the climat Blanches Fleurs, a named vineyard plot in the north of the appellation, at the bottom of the slope. A Chardonnay that is broader and rounder than the mid-slope crus.
Blanches Fleurs lies in the northern part of the Beaune vineyard, towards Savigny, on clay and limestone soils deeper than those of the mid-slope climats. That water reserve translates into generous Chardonnay with an enveloping texture, where ripe fruit takes the lead over tension. The climat is classified Premier Cru and also produces red, but Chardonnay finds comfortable ground here. These are whites that give of themselves fairly quickly, without demanding ten years in the cellar, and they hold up very well at the table.
What the critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the latest vintages of the cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2023 vintage scored 91/100 in Bourgogne Aujourd'hui.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Premier Cru in Bourgogne?
It is a delimited climat, located on the best plots of a commune, whose name appears on the label next to that of the village. It sits between the village appellation and the Grand Cru.
Blanches Fleurs or Tuvilains?
Blanches Fleurs, at the bottom of the slope on deeper soils, gives a broader, rounder wine. Tuvilains, mid-slope on stony ground, plays on tension and minerality. The first for generosity, the second for precision.
