Vinsobres Les Cornuds Red, Famille Perrin is the house's cru in AOC Vinsobres, a red of Grenache and Syrah vinified separately, on black fruit and freshness.
Vinsobres is the first village appellation of the Drôme provençale. The Les Cornuds vines grow on stony, sandy marl on the slopes, and on stony quaternary alluvium on the terraces. The altitude and the cool nights explain the tension found in this wine, which is rare in the southern Rhône.
Famille Perrin is based at Château de Beaucastel, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the family has worked for several generations. A pioneer of organic and then biodynamic growing, it belongs to Primum Familiae Vini, the circle of the world's leading wine families. Over the years it has extended its work to the other appellations of the southern Rhône, each cuvée coming from identified plots that are vinified separately.

Frequently asked questions
Why are the two varieties vinified separately?
The Syrah ferments in truncated wooden vats, the Grenache in stainless steel. Each variety has its own rhythm and its own way of releasing tannin. By keeping them apart, the house can blend after the malolactic fermentation, once each lot has shown what it has to give.
Where is Vinsobres?
Vinsobres lies in the Drôme provençale, at the northern edge of the southern vineyard. It was the first commune in the department to obtain a village appellation. Nights there are cooler than in the Vaucluse, which gives tauter wines.
