Taittinger Brut Réserve Magnum is the signature champagne of Maison Taittinger, here in magnum: a non-vintage brut in which Chardonnay plays a larger part than in most bruts from the great houses. It is the finest way into the Taittinger style, made of finesse, freshness and elegance.
The blend brings together 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Meunier, drawn from around forty crus and several harvests, including 30% reserve wines that keep the style consistent from one year to the next. The wine ages three to four years in the cellar before disgorgement and receives a dosage of 9 g/L. The result is a luminous champagne, both tender and lively, that suits the aperitif as well as the meal. The magnum holds 1.5 litres, the equivalent of two bottles. It is the format enthusiasts prefer: because the volume of air under the cork is proportionally smaller, the wine evolves more slowly and more harmoniously, and gains complexity over time.
Key facts
Tasting notes
Serve it at around 8 to 10 °C, in a white wine glass or a tulip flute rather than a coupe, so its aromas can show. In magnum, allow a few hours in the fridge or a good half hour in a bucket of iced water. The house gives it a cellaring potential of five years or more, and the magnum lets it evolve even more slowly. Store the bottle lying down, in a cool place away from light.
As an aperitif, with gougères, devilled eggs or a black olive tapenade. At the table, it goes with tomatoes and burrata, artichokes, Mediterranean cooking built around aubergine, or cheeses such as Cantal and Mimolette. It is also surprising with fresh figs or a rum baba. In magnum, it is the ideal companion for a festive buffet or a grand dinner.

It is a champagne that blends wines from several harvests. Reserve wines, kept by the house, make it possible to find the same style every year. The term brut refers to a low dosage, below 12 g/L, which keeps fruit and freshness in the foreground.
A magnum ages more slowly than a 75 cl bottle, because the volume of air in contact with the wine is proportionally smaller. The champagne keeps its freshness longer and gains in finesse, and the format is ideal for a table of eight to ten people.
The origins of the house go back to 1734 and the merchant house Forest-Fourneaux, taken over in 1932 by Pierre Taittinger, who gave it his name. Still family-owned and independent, it is led today by Vitalie Taittinger. Its style rests on the generous place given to Chardonnay, a guarantee of finesse and freshness, and its wines age in the Gallo-Roman chalk cellars of Saint-Nicaise, in Reims.
