Savigny-Lès-Beaune Premier Cru Les Peuillets Rouge 2023, Château de Meursault is a Premier Cru from the Savigny slope that faces Beaune, on sandier soils. It brings the village an extra dimension of perfume and length, without ever weighing down the palate.
Les Peuillets stretches along the Savigny slope facing Beaune, at the bottom of the hillside, where the soils fill with sands and gravels carried by the Rhoin. This light and well drained terroir gives very aromatic Pinot Noir, with a fluid texture, which opens faster than the Premiers Crus of the opposite slope. It is a cru of perfume and drinkability more than of power: the difference with the village appellation is played out in the definition of the fruit, the length and the fineness of the grain.
What the critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the most recent vintages of the cuvée, all vintages taken together. The 2022 vintage received 92/100 from Allen Meadows and 17/20 from Bourgogne Aujourd'hui.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates of the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which give five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Premier Cru bring compared with the Savigny village?
More definition and more length, above all. The fruit is more precise, the grain of the tannin silkier and the finish clearly longer. The Premier Cru also takes a few more years in the cellar, without giving up the suppleness of the village.
Is Les Peuillets a cru for cellaring?
Moderately. Its sandy terroir gives wines that reveal themselves fairly early, generally from three or four years. Good vintages do hold ten to twelve years, though, and develop lovely notes of undergrowth.
