Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Champ Canet 2023, Château de Meursault sits at the top of the Puligny-Montrachet slope, just above Les Combettes and a stone's throw from the Meursault boundary. A Premier Cru that combines the floral finesse of Puligny with a little of the flesh of its neighbour.
Puligny-Montrachet gives the finest whites of the Côte de Beaune, on outcropping limestone and a deep water table that keeps the vines cool. Champ Canet occupies the upper part of the appellation, to the north, with lean, stony soils and an easterly exposure. The climat delivers a wine more floral and more tense than the Premiers Crus at the bottom of the slope, without the power of a Montrachet, but with remarkable aromatic precision and a very straight finish.
What the critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the latest vintages of the cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2023 vintage was rated 94/100 by Jasper Morris and 93/100 by Allen Meadows.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet?
The two communes are neighbours but the soils differ. Meursault, with its deeper marls, gives broad and buttery whites. Puligny, set on limestone closer to the surface, produces finer, more floral and more tense wines, often slower to open up.
Where exactly is Champ Canet?
To the north of Puligny-Montrachet, at the top of the slope, just above the climat of Les Combettes and very close to the commune boundary with Meursault. That upper slope position explains its freshness and its mineral signature.
