Pommard Premier Cru Clos de La Platière 2024, Château de Meursault is the part of the Clos de La Platière classified as premier cru, the estate's walled vineyard in Pommard. A wine of structure and length, cut out for the cellar rather than for quick opening.

The Clos de La Platière stretches over the Pommard hillside, on the Beaune side, and its best situated part is classified as premier cru. There you find the red clays and the limestone gravels that built the reputation of the village, on a slope that ensures clean drainage. The wine gains in depth, in density of tannins and in length compared with the village version. Pommard premier cru is an appellation for cellaring: the first years stay tight, then the matter melts and takes on spicy notes.

What the critics say about this cuvée

The scores below cover the latest vintages of the cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2023 vintage received 94/100 from TWOFW and 16.5/20 from Bourgogne Aujourd'hui.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates of the Côte de Beaune. The fief of Moulin Foulot, from which it stems, goes back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since enlarged its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over around a hundred plots, farmed in certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate works entirely on direct sales, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions

Village or premier cru from the same clos, which one to choose?

The village version for a table within three to six years, the premier cru if you accept to wait. The latter has more matter, tighter tannins and a noticeably longer finish, but it calls for a cellar.

How long in a decanter?

One to two hours on a young vintage, this wine needs air. On a vintage over twelve years old, prefer opening it thirty minutes before serving and decanting carefully to leave the sediment in the bottle.
