Meursault Premier Cru Charmes 2024, Château de Meursault unfurls the generous charm of the lower slope of Meursault. It is the broadest Premier Cru of the village, a wide and moreish Chardonnay that opens quickly without losing any of its freshness.
The climat of Les Charmes occupies the bottom of the Meursault slope, between Perrières and Genevrières, on clay and limestone soils deeper than those at the top of the hillside. Its name comes from the old word chaume, land left to rest. The exposure is east to south east, and the vine ripens steadily here. That is what gives Les Charmes its signature: breadth, a round texture, ripe fruit, all held together by the fine acidity that made the reputation of the whites of the Côte de Beaune.
What the critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the latest vintages of the cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2023 vintage was rated 93/100 by Jasper Morris and 93/100 by Allen Meadows.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
Why is this Premier Cru called Les Charmes?
The name does not come from charme, the hornbeam tree, but from the Burgundian word chaume, which described land left fallow. The climat is divided into two parts, Charmes-Dessus on the upper slope and Charmes-Dessous below.
Should you wait before opening a Meursault Charmes?
It already drinks with pleasure on the fruit at three or four years. But the breadth of the climat rewards patience: between six and ten years, the wine gains complexity and develops its notes of hazelnut and honey.
