Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise La Digoine 2024, Domaine A. et P. de Villaine is the best known red of the domaine, and one of the most sought after Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise wines of the region.
La Digoine is a named vineyard plot in the commune of Bouzeron, planted with Pinot Noir on limestone soils. Its reputation goes far beyond its rank as a regional appellation: it is regularly the wine that enthusiasts cite to illustrate what a great grower can draw from a modest terroir. Gentle vinification, minimal extraction, ageing in old barrels to preserve the fruit and the finesse of the texture.
The domaine was founded in 1971 at Bouzeron by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine. Aubert de Villaine co-managed the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1974 to 2022, and applied here, in the Côte Chalonnaise, the same demanding standards as at Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard, of around twenty hectares, has been farmed under certified organic agriculture since the late 1990s, one of the first conversions in Burgundy. Pierre de Benoist, Aubert's nephew, is in charge of technical management.

Frequently asked questions
Why is La Digoine so sought after?
Because it regularly rises above its appellation. It is a regional Bourgogne worked like a cru, by a domaine whose founder co-managed the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti for nearly fifty years.
Should it be decanted?
On a young vintage, thirty minutes in a decanter is a benefit. On a vintage of more than eight years, serve it straight from the bottle, with care.
Who is Domaine A. et P. de Villaine?
It is the domaine founded in 1971 at Bouzeron, in the Côte Chalonnaise, by Aubert de Villaine, for many years co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and his wife Pamela. It has become the benchmark of the Bouzeron appellation and one of the most respected estates of the Côte Chalonnaise.
