Bourgogne Clos du Château Magnum 2023, Château de Meursault comes from the walled vineyard that directly surrounds the Château de Meursault, a monopole lying within the village itself yet classified as a regional appellation. A rare case: village vines in a Bourgogne.
The Clos du Château is a flat walled vineyard at the gates of Meursault, on clay and limestone soils deeper than those of the slope. Classified as regional Bourgogne appellation for reasons of boundary drawing, it nonetheless benefits from the Meursault setting and know how. The wine draws from it a roundness and a breadth of palate unusual at this appellation level, with the hazelnut and fresh butter notes associated with the village. It is one of the most closely followed regional whites of the Côte de Beaune.
What the critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the latest vintages of the cuvée, all vintages taken together. Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief it grew out of dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares across around a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, giving five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Serving and storing
Serve this Bourgogne Clos du Château at 11 to 13 °C. Its cellaring potential is four to eight years. The magnum ages more slowly than the bottle, so count on a few years more. Store the bottle lying down, at a stable temperature, away from light and vibration.
Food and wine pairings
Poultry in a cream sauce, lightly cooked salmon, pike quenelles, saint-nectaire. Snails in parsley butter suit it very well too.

Frequently asked questions
Why is a clos located in Meursault classified as Bourgogne?
Because appellation boundaries take account of the nature of the soils and the position on the slope, not only of the commune. The flat, deep land of the clos does not fall within the village area, even though it touches the village.
Will this wine keep?
It is a regional appellation, so a wine to open within three to five years. It gains a little roundness after two years in the cellar, but it is not a wine to wait on.
Why choose a magnum?
The magnum holds 150 cl, the equivalent of two bottles. The ratio between the volume of wine and the surface in contact with air is more favourable, which slows the evolution and often gives fresher wines at the same age. It is also the format for a big table.
How is the bottle shipped?
Delivery is free in France on orders from 300 €. Each bottle is carefully packed and sent with tracked shipping.
