Corton Grand Cru Les Maréchaudes Magnum 2023, Château de Meursault sits at the foot of the south-east slope of the Corton hill, on red clays loaded with iron. This is a fleshy, dense and spicy Corton, built for long cellaring.
Les Maréchaudes lies on the south-east side of the hill, straddling Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny, in the lower part of the slope. The soils there are more clayey and richer in iron oxide, hence their characteristic reddish tint. This terroir profile produces Corton that are broader shouldered and more immediately generous than those from the top of the slope, without losing any of the tannic framework that signs the Grand Cru. It is a consistent climat, a named vineyard plot that comes through warm vintages as well as cooler ones.
The scores below cover the most recent vintages of the cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2024 vintage earns 96/100 from Bourgogne Aujourd'hui. The 2023 collects 97/100 and the title of "Wine of the Year" at the London Wine Competition 2025, 94/100 at the DWWA, 94/100 from Jasper Morris and a gold medal at the International Wine Challenge. The 2022 is rated 94/100 at the DWWA, with a silver medal, and 94/100 from Jasper Morris. The 2021 received gold at the International Wine Challenge with 97/100.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, goes back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over around a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which give five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Tasting notes
Serve this Corton Grand Cru Les Maréchaudes at 16 to 17 °C. Its cellaring potential is twelve to twenty-five years. The magnum ages more slowly than the bottle, allow a few more years. Store the bottle lying down, at a stable temperature, away from light and vibration.
Roast beef, wild duck, fillet of venison with sauce grand veneur. A thirty-six month Comté at the end of the meal.
Read what a Grand Cru is in Bourgogne, the Grands Crus of Bourgogne and their climats and the best red wine vintages. Find all the cuvées in our Château de Meursault collection, and the rest of our Bourgogne selection in the Bourgogne collection or among our red wines.
Both are climats of the Corton Grand Cru. Le Rognet, on the eastern flank, gives a straighter and firmer wine. Les Maréchaudes, to the south-east and on ferruginous clays, shows fleshier and rounder from a young age.
Corton is indeed the only red Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune, on the hill that overlooks Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix and Pernand-Vergelesses. Les Maréchaudes occupies its south-east part.
The magnum holds 150 cl, the equivalent of two bottles. The ratio between the volume of wine and the surface in contact with air is more favourable, which slows evolution and gives wines that are often fresher at the same age. It is also the format for large tables.
