Corton Grand Cru Les Maréchaudes 2024, Château de Meursault occupies the lower part of the south-east slope of the hill of Corton, on red clays loaded with iron. This is a fleshy, dense and spicy Corton, built for long cellaring.
Les Maréchaudes lies on the south-east of the hill, straddling Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny, in the lower part of the slope. The soils there are more clayey and richer in iron oxide, hence their characteristic reddish tint. This terroir profile produces Corton that is broader shouldered and more immediately generous than those from the top of the slope, without losing any of the tannic weave that signs the Grand Cru. It is a consistent named vineyard plot, which comes through warm vintages as well as cooler ones.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates of the Côte de Beaune. The fief of Moulin Foulot, from which it stems, goes back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since enlarged its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over around a hundred plots, farmed in certified organic agriculture, which yield five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate works entirely on direct sales, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference with Le Rognet?
Both are named vineyard plots of the Grand Cru Corton. Le Rognet, on the eastern flank, gives a straighter and firmer wine. Les Maréchaudes, in the south-east and on ferruginous clays, shows itself fleshier and rounder from its youth.
Why is Corton the only red Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune?
Corton is indeed the only red Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune, on the hill that overlooks Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix and Pernand-Vergelesses. Les Maréchaudes occupies its south-east part.
