Taittinger Nocturne Sec is the festive champagne of Maison Taittinger, designed for evenings and the end of the meal. A Sec champagne, so slightly sweeter than a brut, which keeps the freshness and finesse that define the house style.

The blend follows the structure of the great Taittinger bruts: 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Meunier, drawn from around forty crus and several harvests, with reserve wines. The wine ages at least three years in the cellar, then receives a dosage of 17.5 g/L. This measured sweetness rounds out the palate without weighing it down and brings out the aromas of ripe fruit.

Key facts

  • Origin: France, Champagne, Reims
  • Producer: Champagne Taittinger
  • Grapes: Chardonnay 40%, Pinot Noir 35%, Meunier 25%
  • Dosage: Sec, 17.5 g/L
  • Ageing: at least three years in the cellar
  • Size: 75 cl

Tasting notes

  • Colour: Pale yellow with shimmering highlights, a cordon of fine bubbles
  • Nose: Acacia and elderflower, yellow peach and dried apricot
  • Palate: Clean, generous attack, very fresh, round and smooth texture on candied fruit and raisins, soft and precise finish

Serving and storage

Serve it well chilled, at around 7 to 8 °C, in a tulip flute or a white wine glass. The house recommends drinking it within three to four years to enjoy its freshness. Store the bottle lying down, in a cool place away from light.

Food pairing

It pairs with foie gras and gingerbread, yellow fruit desserts, an apricot tart, a strawberry cake or macarons. It is also enjoyed on its own, late in the evening, when you want a champagne softer than a brut.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Sec champagne?

Despite its name, a Sec champagne is sweeter than a brut: its dosage liqueur brings between 17 and 32 g/L of sugar. At 17.5 g/L, the Nocturne sits at the start of this category, between brut and demi-sec.

Who is Maison Taittinger?

The origins of the house go back to 1734 and the merchant house Forest-Fourneaux, taken over in 1932 by Pierre Taittinger, who gave it his name. Still family-owned and independent, it is led today by Vitalie Taittinger. Its style rests on the generous place given to Chardonnay, a guarantee of finesse and freshness, and its wines age in the Gallo-Roman chalk cellars of Saint-Nicaise, in Reims.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose between wine, champagne, spirits, liqueur or chartreuse?

It all depends on the occasion (and what you feel like!).

  • Wine: to go with a good meal.
  • Champagne: for aperitifs and celebrations.

No, our cellar is open to the world! Although we favour French gems, we also select treasures from elsewhere.

What is the difference between a liqueur and a chartreuse?

Chartreuse is a herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks according to a secret recipe. It is a liqueur , but not all liqueurs are Chartreuse.
