Rully 1er Cru Margotés 2023, Domaine A. et P. de Villaine is a white Rully Premier Cru from the named vineyard plot Les Margotés, one of the most highly regarded premiers crus of the appellation for white wines.
Les Margotés occupies a mid slope position on shallow limestone soils, which give the Chardonnay a particular tension. It is one of the tightest crus of the domaine at bottling, and one of those that gain the most from waiting. The ageing stays discreet, in barrels that are very largely old.
The domaine was founded in 1971 at Bouzeron by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine. Aubert de Villaine co-managed the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1974 to 2022, and applied here, in the Côte Chalonnaise, the same demanding standards as at Vosne-Romanée. The vineyard, of around twenty hectares, has been farmed under certified organic agriculture since the late 1990s, one of the first conversions in Burgundy. Pierre de Benoist, Aubert's nephew, is in charge of technical management.

Should it be decanted?
It is not essential, but twenty minutes in a decanter does a young vintage good.
