Beaune Beaufougets 2023, Château de Meursault is a village level white Beaune, from the Beaufougets named vineyard plot, on the upper part of the Beaune hillside. A straight Chardonnay that shows what the Côte de Beaune gives outside the premiers crus.
The Beaune appellation stretches along the slope overlooking the town, facing east to south east, on clay and limestone soils that are often stony. It is still best known for its reds, but the whites have progressed markedly over the past twenty years and offer a value for money ratio that has become rare in the Côte de Beaune. The higher plots, cooler and leaner, give tense Chardonnay wines, on citrus and white blossom, with a chalky finish. The style is that of a precise white for the table rather than a wine to lay down.
What the critics say about this cuvée
The scores below cover the most recent vintages of this cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2023 vintage was rated 93/100 by VertdeVin.
Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over around a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which give five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Frequently asked questions
Is Beaune mostly red or white?
Historically red: the appellation is still mainly planted with Pinot Noir. But the share of Chardonnay is growing and the whites of Beaune are today among the good deals of the Côte de Beaune.
At what temperature should it be served?
Between 11 and 13 °C. Too cold, it loses its nose and its texture. Take it out of the fridge a quarter of an hour before serving, or keep it around 12 °C in a bucket during the meal.
How is the bottle shipped?
Delivery is free in France from 300 € of purchase. Each bottle is carefully packed and shipped with tracking.
