Collection: Côte Chalonnaise
Located south of the Côte de Beaune, between Chagny and Chalon-sur-Saône, the Côte Chalonnaise is one of the best bargains in Burgundy. Its red wines from Pinot Noir and white wines from Chardonnay offer Burgundian character at prices often gentler than those of the Côte d'Or. Here you will find all our Côte Chalonnaise wines, whatever the estate.

The terroir of the Côte Chalonnaise
Unlike the Côte d'Or, the Côte Chalonnaise does not form a continuous slope. Its vines stretch over a succession of limestone and clay-limestone hills, surrounded by woods and meadows. The slightly cooler climate gives lively, fruity and easy-drinking wines.
The five village appellations
- Bouzeron: the only village appellation in Burgundy dedicated to Aligoté, which here gives a lively and elegant white.
- Rully: best known for its fresh, floral whites and for its crémants.
- Mercurey: the largest appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise, renowned for its fleshy reds and its Premiers Crus such as the Clos des Myglands, the Grand Clos Fortoul and Sazenay.
- Givry: fruity, supple reds, said to have been among the favourite wines of King Henri IV.
- Montagny: a 100% white appellation, with many Premiers Crus such as Les Chaniots and Les Cloux.
The taste of Côte Chalonnaise wines
The reds offer notes of cherry, raspberry and sweet spices, with fine tannins. They can be drunk from 2 to 3 years and keep for 5 to 10 years for the Premiers Crus. The whites, lively and mineral, evoke citrus fruit, white flowers and hazelnut. Serve the reds between 15 and 16 °C and the whites between 10 and 12 °C.
What to pair with a Côte Chalonnaise wine?
A red Mercurey or Givry goes well with poultry, roast pork, charcuterie or beef bourguignon. A white Rully or Montagny pairs with fish, seafood, gougères and goat's cheeses. Bouzeron is perfect as an aperitif or in a kir with crème de cassis.

Frequently asked questions
Are Côte Chalonnaise wines true Burgundies?
Yes. The Côte Chalonnaise is part of the Burgundy wine region and uses the same grape varieties, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as the Côte d'Or. Its wines are simply more accessible.
What is the best appellation of the Côte Chalonnaise?
Mercurey is the best known for reds, Montagny and Rully for whites. The Premiers Crus of these villages offer excellent value for money.
