Very few estates offer it as a separate cuvée.

Les Vergennes lies on the eastern flank of the hill of Corton, at Ladoix-Serrigny, just below the belt of Corton-Charlemagne. The plot is classified as Grand Cru Corton and can produce white as well as red, but Chardonnay is very much in the minority there, which explains how rare these bottles are. The more easterly exposure and the stony soils mixed with marl give a white that is less massive than Corton-Charlemagne, more floral and quicker to open, while keeping the mineral backbone of the hill.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The fief of Moulin Foulot, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred parcels, farmed under certified organic agriculture, producing five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Key points

Origin: France, Bourgogne, Côte de Beaune

Appellation: Corton-Vergennes Grand Cru Blanc

Estate: Château de Meursault

Grape variety: Chardonnay 100 %

Vintage: 2023

Colour: White wine

Viticulture: Certified organic agriculture

Volume: 75 cl

Tasting notes

Appearance: Bright pale gold, lemon and green highlights, perfectly clear

Nose: Acacia blossom, white peach, fresh almond, a note of wet stone

Palate: Fine and slender, ripe acidity, mineral finish without hardness

Serving and cellaring

Serve this Corton-Vergennes Grand Cru at 12 to 13 °C.
