A massive wine in its youth, often closed during its first years, which asks for cellar time before it truly gives itself up.

Corton-Charlemagne forms a belt around the upper part of the hill of Corton, across the communes of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. The best exposures run from south-west to south-east, on white marl rich in limestone that gives Chardonnay an uncommon structure and acidity. It is the most powerful white Grand Cru of the Côte de Beaune, often reserved for five years, then capable of developing over more than twenty years on candied citrus, hazelnut and an almost saline minerality.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The fief of Moulin Foulot, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over about a hundred parcels, farmed under certified organic agriculture, producing five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Key points

Origin: France, Bourgogne, Côte de Beaune

Appellation: Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Estate: Château de Meursault

Grape variety: Chardonnay 100 %

Vintage: 2024

Colour: White wine

Viticulture: Certified organic agriculture

Volume: 150 cl, magnum

Tasting notes

Appearance: Pale green gold in youth, slowly turning amber over the years

Nose: Lemon, flint, hazelnut, emerging honey, browned butter with time

Palate: Powerful and vertical, imposing acidity, very long saline finish

Serving and cellaring

Serve this Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru at 12 to 14 °C. The wine needs several years for its structure to knit together, and can then hold two decades without weakening.

At what temperature should it be served?

Between 12 and 14 °C, a little warmer than an everyday white. Served too cold, it stays closed and shows only its acidity. A large white wine glass helps it express itself markedly.

Why choose a magnum?

The magnum holds 150 cl, that is two bottles. The ratio between the volume of wine and the surface in contact with air is more favourable, which slows the evolution and gives wines that are often fresher at the same age. It is also the format for large tables.

How is the bottle shipped?

Delivery is free within France on orders from 300 €.
