Post war replanting all but erased it and only a few plots remain, kept by estates attached to that heritage. At regional appellation level it gives a white with a deeper colour, a broad texture and a register of yellow fruit and sweet spice, quite far from the Chardonnay profile.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief it grew out of dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares across around a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, giving five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, and 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Key points

Origin: France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune

Appellation: Bourgogne Pinot-Beurot

Estate: Château de Meursault

Grape variety: Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris) 100 %

Vintage: 2023

Colour: White wine

Viticulture: Certified organic agriculture

Volume: 75 cl

Tasting notes

Appearance: Pale rose gold, a deeper shade than that of a Chardonnay

Nose: Williams pear, quince, honey, sweet spice, a smoky touch

Palate: Broad and unctuous, discreet acidity, spiced finish with a light noble bitterness

Serving and storing

Serve this Bourgogne Pinot-Beurot at 11 to 13 °C.
