A straight Chardonnay that shows what the Côte de Beaune gives outside the premiers crus.

The Beaune appellation stretches along the slope overlooking the town, facing east to south east, on clay and limestone soils that are often stony. It is still best known for its reds, but the whites have progressed markedly over the past twenty years and offer a value for money ratio that has become rare in the Côte de Beaune. The higher plots, cooler and leaner, give tense Chardonnay wines, on citrus and white blossom, with a chalky finish. The style is that of a precise white for the table rather than a wine to lay down.

What the critics say about this cuvée

The scores below cover the most recent vintages of this cuvée, all vintages combined. The 2023 vintage was rated 93/100 by VertdeVin.

Château de Meursault is one of the finest estates in the Côte de Beaune. The Moulin Foulot fief, from which it comes, dates back to the 11th century. Bought in 2012 by Olivier Halley, the estate has since expanded its vineyard: 65 hectares spread over around a hundred plots, farmed under certified organic agriculture, which give five Grands Crus, twenty Premiers Crus and a dozen village and regional appellations. The estate sells entirely direct, 100 % of its production comes from its own vines.

Key points

Origin: France, Bourgogne, Côte de Beaune

Appellation: Beaune Beaufougets

Estate: Château de Meursault

Grape variety: Chardonnay 100 %

Vintage: 2023

Colour: White wine

Viticulture: Certified organic agriculture

Volume: 75 cl

Tasting notes

Appearance: Pale gold with green reflections, clear

Nose: Lemon, hawthorn, fresh almond, a chalky note

Palate: Straight and clean, frank acidity, saline citrus finish

Serving and cellaring

Serve this Beaune Beaufougets at 11 to 13 °C.
